Musketeers Return Cornsword to Cintas in Win over Panthers

The inaugural Cornsword trophy has found a home in Cincinnati after Xavier’s 64-42 victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers. Preview: Championship Sunday versus the Panthers

The Musketeers will be playing for some hardware for the second year in a row in Orlando, as the winners of the AdvoCare Invitational from a season ago will take on the Northern Iowa Panthers in the Tire Pros Invitational championship. Coincidentally, the Musketeers had the Panthers on their non-conference schedule already, meaning that they will take on Northern Iowa on this Championship Sunday as well as this Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Cintas Center. Recap: Musketeers Dismantle Buffalo with Turnaround Performance

A few nights after the Musketeers escaped with a win against Lehigh, Xavier looked like a completely different team on Monday night in their 86-53 romping of Buffalo.

The big story was the defense, which stepped up in more ways than one in the win. After allowing Lehigh to shoot 50 percent from the floor and almost 40 percent from three, the Bulls shot 31 percent from the field in one of the longest games we will (hopefully) see all year.
